You can try this:

DateJulian = DateDiff("y", DateSerial(Year(DateVal), 1,
1), DateVal) + 1 + Year(DateVal) * 1000

where "DateVal" is the Access short date you want to
convert and "DateJulian" is the numeric field to which you
want to assign the Julian date.
