cost resource : Project Server 2007

Alain

Hello,

I have defined "Cost Resource" in my project called "furniture". I have
assigned this resource to a task and defined the amount.
I have save a baseline of my project. All my work resources have entered
their actuals in the project. So I can follow up the cost of my project. The
problem is that I don't know where I can define the effective cost of my
"cost resource" (in the same way I can enter my actuals). So, when I analyse
the remaing cost of my project, I still have the cost of my "Cost resource"
that remains.
How can I enter the follow up of this Cost Resource ?

Thanks.

Hi Alain,

I don't have Project Server 2007 here to test, so I could only test in
Project 2007 Pro (Beta).

I could record actual costs for the cost resource in the Task Usage view by
adding the Actual Cost data to the timescaled portion of the view and
manually typing in actual costs.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi Julie,

I have tried to do so. The problem is that the cell "Actual Cost" is locked
and I cannot enter any value.

Hi Alain,

Are you working in the Task Usage view in Project Professional and trying to
enter actual costs in the assignment row of the cost resource (furniture)?
The actual cost field for the work resource assignment row is locked, but the
cost resource assignment row should be editable.

Just to double check - are you running Project 2007 Beta or the release
version? If Beta, are you running the Tech Refresh?

Yes, I am trying to enter actual costs in the assignment row of the cost
resource (furniture) in Project Pro. It is locked. But I found something new.
My cost resource was defined with the parameter "Cost accrual"=Start (which
correspond to what I want).

If I change this to "Cost accrual"=Prorated, I can enter the actual cost int
Task Usage view as you suggest.

Although it if is "Cost accrual"=Start, it should be possible to update
actual cost ?

Thanks.

Hi Alain,

I just did some other quick testing and can confirm that I see the same
behavior as you. If the accrual for the cost resource is set to start,
I seem to be unable to record actual costs. However, with the accrual
set to pro-rated, all functions as normal.

Why the difference in the cost accrual from start to prorated seems to
make a difference, I'm afraid I can't explain.

Again, I am working from the Beta release, it is possible this has been
corrected in the final release.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
