Entourage Date Book Duplicated all entries for no reason at all

Entourage is set to sync with the Apple Address Book and Calendar.

Entourage has been working fine since I loaded it, although I gave up trying to sync it with a Blackberry Bold because it simply does not work.

Why has this happened?

How do I remove these duplicated entries?

Can this be prevented if I can sort it out?

All advice welcome and desperately needed because I can't find a solution in the search results.

To get rid of duplicates use one of the scripts on this page.

All duplicates will have the "None" category assigned. If you assign a
category to all items even if it's a generic category like "current" then
you can easily get rid of dupes by sorting by "none" and delete.

This is a common problem with syncing. Be glad it didn't delete everything.

Backup is the key to recovering from a sync disaster.

Try this, just enable one module in Entourage for sync'g at a time in
Entourage prefs sync. In my case, I just have Calendar always enabled.
However, if I want to update my addressbook I turn of Calendar and
turn on Contacts then choose combine, make my changes or sync with my
Bold and then after the Contacts are up to date I go back in and turn
off Contacts in prefs and now turn on Calendar combine.

For some reason, this seems to avert most problems with sync. I sync
to both a BlackBerry Bold and a Palm TX 2 or 3 times a day. There is a
serious problem with sync services and Entourage and as I have
discovered other apps are affected. People are hoping that Snow
Leopard might correct this but no one knows till it comes out.

Hi

Things have taken a slight turn for the worse, on a reboot Microsoft Entourage then lost all the dates.

I have exported my apple addressbook and iCal so that I have a copy, (The iCal my has duplicate dates and some of the contacts have also duplicated).

I have tried to do a restore from the mobile me back up, which has created other issues of only some data being restored. I thing that the Entourage's last sync up has corrupted that data in the iSync.

Tomorrow I will try and delete the the info in the Apple Addressbook and iCal, remove the info on the .mac mobile me back up. and then try reimporting the exported iCal and addressbook. and then try using the the iCal Dupe Deleater so that hopefully entourage with sync the correct info back.

As for using the Blackberry it now errors out if I try syncing syncing Entourage info on to the phone in a one way sync. I have spent days talking to the the Blackberry tech team in Canada. We go though the process of factory resetting the phone, resetting it up and then syncing the the info from Entourage to the phone (Normally takes about an hour or more each time), this is doing only the Calendar and the contact one at a time. This will work for a couple of times and then errors out.

I have also had the phone replaced and still have the same problem. I have even tried it on another computer and it is no better.

I find this strange because when I used Palm device on my old computer they would sync in a minutes.

How long does it take for your Blackberry to sync out of interest?

I have managed to get my dates back into entourage by using iCal Duplicator remover, removing dates information from iSync's iDisc, exporting the date book. then re-syncing. The dates are back in Entourage, but I have lost all my categories.

How can I now stop the dates duplicating in the future?

You can't! I gave you the option to use categories so that any dupes will
show as none in a previous message.

I'll get to the BlackBerry in a sec. First, there is a problem with
sync services that is heavily discussed in the forum. Do a search in
the forum with the word workaround and choose the Aug 22 09 entry. I
have posted this workaround many times. This provides fairly reliable
syncs.

In terms of your BlackBerry what are you using to sync. I tried
PocketMac and didn't like it at all as it takes a long time to sync.
If you are using this I suspect the error out has nothing to do with
the device but the corruption in Entourage.

I use Missing Sync V2 for the BlackBerry (I have a Bold). This is very
fast and I really mean fast compared to PocketMac. It uses sync
services though and if there is a problem in sync services you will
end up with a problem on your BlackBerry or any device such as the
iPhone, Palm etc. I sync both a Palm TX and my BlackBerry 2 to 3 x's a
day using Missing Sync for each device very successfully. However, the
BlackBerry is a little odd in the way it handles identifiers so you
can end up with a problem on a BlackBerry sync while the Palm will go
just fine. I know how to fix this but I won't get into that as its
detailed and I don't know if you'll ever have this issue.

Finally, in Sept RIM is releasing its own dedicated desktop for the
Mac to sync BlackBerrys. You'll know longer need to go to Windows to
manage the device which is what you have to do now regardless of
whether you use PocketMac or Missing Sync. Get on the list to be
advised when the software is released. We have to be aware though that
this will be version 1 software from RIM but I suspect it will be
good. However, it too is going to use sync services and as you will
see via a scan of the forum Apple's sync services has lots of issues.

Hope this helps.
