Link Project to Excel and Vice Versa

I would like to set up a system that all of my excel files are based off of a
project files cells, for an automatic update purpose, to save time. Is there
a way, either directly or indirectly, to link project cells to excel cells.
MS Excel has a similar feature where you can ( = ) one cell to the next for
update purpose. Microsoft should make some kind of compatibility between the
two to make it more user friendly for the everyday user.

Hi ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

They do:) You can select a cell in Project, copy it and in Excel use Paste
Special - see FAQ Item: 10 Exporting to Excel. Be warned, however, the
links are not robust and any changes in thinsgs, like where the files are
stored, can break links and cause problems.

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

This function exists already. Select the information you want to link. From
edit menu select copy. Switch to excel, select the cell you want to paste to.
From edit menu select "paste special" and in the dialog box check the "paste
link" box.

This method has some issues. Be careful to maintain file names and locations.
