MSBuild office hotfix bootstrapper problem

D

David Thielen

The KB article at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;948461 lists
how to detect if the required Office hotfixes are installed for .NET

However, the MSBuild bootstrapper for the office hotfixes does not
follow these guidelines. We have set the registry by hand on a system
Office 2000 on Vista (weird but that is what one of our customers
uses) and the bootstrapper keeps trying to install the hotfixes,
fails, and stops the install.

Is there a newer version of this bootstrapper anywhere?

Also, is there a MSBuild bootstrapper for the Office PIAs (any/all of
2000/2002/2003/2007)?

And is there a bootstrapper to optionally install the Office
compatibility pack on Office 2000/2002/2003?

thanks - dave

Hello Dave,

Because my specialty is not Windows setup, honestly, I have limited
knowledge about bootstrapper and setup staff. Although I cannot quickly
tell how to write a MSBuild bootstrapper for PIA, and the compatibility
package, I will consult the product team and let you know their
suggestions. As far as I know, Microsoft has not released any MSBuild
bootstrapper for the two components.

Regarding the MSBuild bootstrapper for the office hotfix issue, do you mean
the bootstrapper by "ohotfix.exe" extracted from the hotfix in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907417/? I tested it in an Office 2000
system, and found that the hotfix will pop up a message "the expected
version of the product was not found on your system." Is this what you saw?
I will ask the product team for more information about it.

Hi;

That KB is one of the 3 hotfixes. I tried to find the link on the MS
site for the MSBuild bootstrapper to install the 3 hotfixes but could
not.

I think KB908002 lists all 3. There is a MS supplied bootstrapper to
install these but the MS provided bootstrapper does not work. We had
to work with MS Support for about 4 months to get this working. THey
were going to post that final working version but I don't know if they
ever did.

But it thinks that it needs to install for the Office 2000 on Vista
scenario. Is there an updated version that includes the fixes they
incorporated for us and that handles this case?

thanks - dave

Hello Dave,

Thank you for the background information. I found your support incident in
our internal database. After reading through it, I have a more
comprehensive picture of this issue now. I am asking the case owners for
their suggestions of the Office 2000 on Vista scenario. In fact, you are
also welcome to re-open that support incident, and post this follow-up
question. The support engineers in that case should be responsible to
continue researching with you until a very satisfactory resolution.
