Project Reporting (KPI Trends)

Mark Haley

Currently, as part of my project status reporting, I provide trend graphs of
KPI e.g. BL Work, Planned Work, BL Duration Planned Duration. To do this I
export the desired project metrics to an Access DB Table and then from there
export to an Excel Template containing pre-mapped graphs. I recognize the
value ot this information and presentation, but it is a pain to produce.

Is there an easier way to do this in MSOffice 2003 / 2007. It does not
appear this kind of information is available in the Reporting SQL Server.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

We do something similar, but use a product called Kidasa Milestones
Professional. See http://www.kidasa.com. They are a third party vendor
listed under companion products (see the link under may signature). this
product allows you to map the desired project fields into a Milestones file
directly.

The product makes some nice eye candy and will seemlessly import from
Project 2003 and 2007. We find the Excel data exports in Project 2003 to be
lacking.

Project 2007 offers some much better Visual Reporting into Excel and you can
do some much more robust pivot table charts. If your company allows Project
2007, it may be the better way to go. For us, we have too many seats on
Project 2000 and 2003, IT wants to wait for at least one service pack before
they'll allow us Project 2007.

Both Project 2007 and Milestones have 30 day free trials, so go give both a
try and see what will work best for you.
