Allocation of Generic Resources from Project Server between differ

Hello,

I am trying to allocate generic resources from the server, in my case sub
contractors. I am working on the 2007 versions of Project and server.

My problem is that i can't find a way to limit how many of these sub
contractors work on each project at any one time, meaning they all work on
one project and delay a later starting project until they're finished with
the first project, wheras in reality only a fraction work on each project.

A very simplified example would be that we have 10 sub contracted
bricklayers, I want 6 to work on one project and 4 to work on another.
Currently i am making a new generic resource for each project, ie "Bricklayer
1" and setting its max units to 600% & "Bricklayer 2" set at 400%.

My problem with this is that we have a lot of projects running in parallel
and a large pool of sub contractors. Is there a way to limit the amount of
resources available to our company from the sub contractor (in this case 10)
and then to be able to limit how many are available in each individual
project (in this case 6 and 4)?

Any help would be much apreciated

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your response. My problem is a lot more compex than the one i
gave. Many of the schedules made are for the purpose of transmittals and
quotes. We are a drafting company and as such our quotes are based on man
hours. It is not practical for me to assign all 80 of our staff with
different skill sets and individuals from our 6 different sub contractors at
the quoting stage of a project. It is however essential to see if we can meet
the 100s of deadlines per project with the resources we have and as such
generic resources are ideal for this.

As we have 30+ projects to quote at different times and 20+ projects running
at one time it is essential to be able to use generic resources from the
quoting stage and turn them into individual task owners as the project begins
and progresses. What would be ideal for this problem would be the ability to
limit the number of sub contractors abvailable to our company & the number of
staff with particular skill sets in our company on the server and then to be
able to limit the number of each of these available to each project.

I am not sure if this is possible, but if anyone knows how or maybe another
solution it would be absolutely great.

Cheers
