Backwards compatibility

Is Office XP backwards compatible with Office 2000? Or for
that matter is any Office product backwards compatible
with the previous version?

Or is it the other way?/

Confused please straighten out.

Thanks

Generally, the newer versions have new features that are not supported by
previous versions. PowerPoint 97-2002 all share the same file format, so
older versions will play presentations that have been created in a newer
version. They just won't have the new "bells and whistles", like new
animations and transitions. PowerPoint 95 is a whole different animal.

Does that help?

If you mean can PowerPoint 2000 open a PowerPoint XP file, the answer is
yes. But any new features in the XP file that 2000 didn't have will not
display as programmed.

Likewise, PowerPoint 97 can open an XP file, but same story on the new
features.

If you are talking about using a pre-97 version to open an XP file, the
answer is no. Not unless the XP file is saved as a 95 version file. With 97
or 2000, the XP file does not have to be "back-saved".
