box around paragraph but not a text box publisher

In publisher, I would like to be able to draw a box around a paragraph
without making it a text box. In the previous version this was doable by
using the rectangle on the left side. Now that rectangle makes it a text
box.

You can still draw a box around anything you like. And yes, you do use the
rectangle on the left side. Draw it, right click, format AutoShape.

It is still the same as always. What you need to do when you put the rectangle
around the paragraph is give it no wrap (none). Select your rectangle, click the
dog on the picture toolbar, click none.

I'm sorry but as soon as you use that rectangle tool, it becomes a text box.
I don't want a text box. I simply want to put a box around a paragraph.

If your copy of Publisher really is doing that, then something's screwed up.

Why do you think that it's a text box? Yes, it kind of looks like one but
you can't add text inside of it. Have you actually tried right-clicking on
it and changing the format?

Are you using a template? There may be some synchronization going on. Create a
new text box in the scratch area, copy your text from the pre-designed text
boxes and paste into the new text box. Does the rectangle work now?

And yes you can add text to the rectangle, right-click, add text.

a) The behaviour you're describing is very odd and something I've never
seen. Sorry if I sound patronising, but are you sure you're using the
rectangle tool and not the text box tool?

b) What difference does it make, really, if you have a text box there?
An empty text box and a rectangle are effectively the same thing; just
don't enter any text and the text box will look just like a rectangle.
It's a workaround, but if it works...
