Can I uninstall Microsoft excell without loosing my excel files ?

Have been unable to open my excel files via the shortcut icons and also when
I save a file to CD then I am unable to open the file from CD. CD excel files
will open when opened on another computer. I want to uninstall excel then
reinstall but don't want to take a chance on loosing my excel files. Help
would be appreciated.

1. Are you able to open Excel? If yes then can you open your files from
File->Open option? If yes then your shortcut may be bad... Find the Excel.exe
in Program Files->MS office folder and create a new shortcut.

2. If the above does not work then before uninstalling try the repair option
by running setup from your Excel installation CD/DVD. It might fix your
problem.

Data files will NOT be deleted or damaged by reinstalling/repairing EXCEL.

Peo is correct. You won't lose your files but what makes you think that a
re-install would change things?

First of all, saving to or opening from a CD is an iffy operation at best.

You should save to HDD then copy to CD.

Same when opening.......copy to HDD then open.

The shortcuts not opening Excel workbooks could simply be a file association
problem.

You could run a detect and repair from Help or

Try the usual fix for this.

Tools>Options>General Uncheck "Ignore Other Applications"

If no joy with that................

Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.

In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes
required)>OK.
