cannot save Autorecover error

Can ayone tell me how to fix Excel:
"Microsoft Excel cannot save AutoRecover info to C:\AFILES\A NEW DOCUMENTS.
Please check the network connection or change the location on the Save tab of
the Tools, Options dialog."

When I open the Options tab to change the Save setting, it will not allow
any changes and retunrs "Cannot access directory 'C:\AFILES\A NEW DOCUMENTS'."

Thanks,

I have same problem - Excel 2003 with Windows XP home.
The error message appears whene I try any tab on the Tools-Options dialogue
box.
The problem also seems to cause autoarchiving to fail and produce an error
message.
Another post suggests to open Excel from Start-Run using excel.exe/safe.
I have tried this and Still get the error and the resultant inability to
change any option in Excel.

Have you tried creating the directory it is looking for:
C:\AFILES\A NEW DOCUMENTS
?
