Create a macro to insert letterhead/footer/page numbers

I have a template of our letterhead & footer with page numbers.
Presently we have to copy the info in a letter over to our
template.

I am thinking that I have 2 options.

1. create a macro to copy the info in the letter and paste in the
template (have the letter open, then click on the macro and it opens
template and pastes letter into template). or

2. insert the letterhead and footer along with page numbers into my
letter. (would need to create header, footer on only first page with
page numbers (page x of x) on pages 2 to end of letter)

Not sure which is easier.

Any advice, guidance is most appreciated.
thx

If you have a letterhead template, why not just create a macro to open
it when you wnat to do a letter and put a button on you toolbar to
launch it. That's what I do. Then whenever you want to do a letter
just click on the button on your toolbar and the letterhead opens and
you start typing your letter!

That would work if you are starting from scratch, but we have letters
that are in RTF.
We download them to use. Then I need to either apply the letterhead
to the downloaded letter or
copy the letter over to the letterhead.

I have a macro set up for WordPerfect that places a letterhead on the
current document I am working but am having trouble making the same
thing up for Word.
