Error 3264

Mac Mini running OS X.3.9 and Office 2004.

Earlier in the day could send and receive mail just fine. Suddenly I get the
error 3264 - network is unavailable. Mail could not be sent or received. Yet
the network is working: I can browse and print.

Now what?
