how do I open project plans created in project 1997?

Keith Rickman

I have some project plans which were created under MS 1997 and now I cannot
open them in Project 2003. How can I obtain a copy of Project 1997 to open
them and print them in order to input them into project 2003?

Hi Keith,

To the best of my knowledge, there was no Project 1997. There was a
Project 95 and Project 98. You may be able to find a copy of the
earlier versions on e-bay or perhaps someone who frequents this
newsgroup would volunteer to convert the file for you. Sorry, I can't
help in that regard.

If you haven't too many, zip them up and email me and I'll convert them for
you.

Whoever opens them first, be very careful. Sudden exposure to sunlight
might cause plans this old to decompose and crumble into the botton of
your monitor. Not only might you lose the plan, the dust could
seriously harm your monitor's performance!

Nah! - he was a pyramid seller :)

Yes, but before that, I was a PM, but had to give it up because I had
so much trouble reading heiroglyphic Gantt Charts!

BTW, anyone want a good deal on a pyramid? I have some very nice ones
in Mexico and in Egypt...

Dear Mike,

I do encounter this similar problem. I've a Project file which is older than
Project 98 and need to refer it urgently for our new project.
I've sent you the file to your email, pls help us to convert it if possible.

Many thanks.

Best Regards,
Ophelia

Hi Mike,

I noticed that you can convert old files!

I have one small file that someone has sent to me as an attachement. They
are unable to follow the procedure given by microsoft (error msg: "open file
in project 98, & save as xml file), but assure me that the file is pre-2000;
possibly 95. Is it possible for you to convert one if i send it to you?

If so, can you pls supply your preferred email address?

Kind regards,

Eugene

Eugene,
I don't remember if Mike is "out-of-town" but if you don't see a
response in a timely manner, I can convert the older version Project
file for you. Just zip it and send it to the address below. If it's not
corrupt, I'll convert it and send it back.

Mike,
I haven't heard from Eugene. My guess is he is a poster who posts a
message and then checks back a week or two later to see if there was a
response. Of course by then, you and I have probably forgotten what the
original post was all about :)
