schemr

hi,
i was wondering how i could set the title of the project the same as the
project name (ie, title of the project should equal xyz of xyz.mpp). @ the
moment, it is settin the title of the template i have created since the PMs
are renameing the template for every new project they create. if the question
isnt clear, please post comment and i will try to further clarify

If you're referring to the value that appears in the Task Name field
for the Project Summary task, that is picked up from File>Properties.
I'm not sure if there's a way to get that value to automatically update
to the filename.

Hi schemr ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

The name seen in the Project Summary task is the name of the file without
the .mpp. So, File/Save As... and give the file a new name and this is now
its title.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

hi mike,
i have tried this but it still keeps the old title and displays in the
summary. this is a major problem when i try to create a master project file.
since all the projects are created from a base template, all of them show the
same name under the task name field of the master schedule when i add them to
the master project but have their specific project names when i click the "+"
sign to drill down into the projects. please help since when i try to resave
the standard template with a new name, the title remains same as the template
and does NOT take the new name when i click save as.

yes i have tried this, and it worx....but the problem is, the Project
Managers have created over 50 projects with this template. it would be VERY
VERY tedious job to go into each project and change the title for each
project. i was wondering if there was a quicker way. thanx

I'm guessing you can do this with a macro. I don't know Project VBA but
you could post on the Project VBA NG and someone there will help you.

Hi schemr ,

Try posting on the developer newsgroup as the vba ng is trying to close
down. Please see FAQ Item: 24. Project Newsgroups. FAQs, companion
products and other useful Project information can be seen at this web

Make the project managers do it themselves. It should be part of the
process for setting up a new schedule from the template, in which case,
it's merely a training issue.

Thank goodness for the search facility & all you helpful people out there too;

have been struggling with this myself - the solution's quite easy really
isn't it.

Thanks
