Installing Office 2003 upgrade over Office 2007 trial version

I purchased office 2003 upgrade with a laptop that has subsequently died.
The new machine I purchased came preloaded with trial Office 2007 but I'd
like to install the Office 2003. When I attempt to do so, I'm prompted that
the upgrade only works over Office 2000, XP etc. Can I work around this?

Navigate around the CD and see if you find a setup program in a
sub-directory that allows this. Otherwise, no.

You have to uninstall the 2007 trial together with any activation assistant
then reboot, before you can install any paid for version.
Your upgrade version will then require a qualifying app, of which a trial is
not such, before you can install it

No unless you have a previous program that qualifies as an upgrade for
Office 2003. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315995 for Office 2003
qualifying programs. Before attempting to install the Office 2003 programs
(once you find a qualifying upgradable program) make sure that all trial
Office software and any activation wizard have been uninstalled.
