Looking to purchase Office 2007, Licensing & Reinstallation Questi

D

Doug the Neard

I'm looking to purchase Office 2007 Ultimate (through the Ultimate Steal
Promo, as I'm a college student). I have two questions I need to make sure
about before I purchase, however, to ensure I don't mess things up.

1. I understand (at least I hope I understand right) that, by the EULA, I
can install on my desktop and my laptop (aka "portable" per EULA terms).
However, does the order I do this matter? And does it matter which computer I
purchase/download the product from?

2. In addition, I plan on reinstalling XP on the desktop at some point in
the near future (hopefully that won't be an issue with validation, but that's
a different topic). If I install Office now, would I be able to reinstall and
validate it again at when I reinstall XP?

(Oh, and the Laptop's Vista, if that makes a difference)

Thanks,

Doug

1. No, the order does not matter on the order and the computer yo
purchase from.

2. That should technically work. If the key is shown as maxed out, cal
MS and provide proof of purchase to install

mmm...i've been doing my own reading of those wonderful eula terms, and i'd
say the order *does* matter. they want you to install to a 'device' that is
then the 'licensed device'. then you can install on an additional portable
device (laptop). if your 'licensed device' is the laptop, you could then
install to another laptop; if your 'licensed device' is the desktop, you
could also then install to a laptop.
BUT...if your 'licensed device' is the laptop, you could not install to a
non-portable, i.e. desktop.

that's how i read it, anyway. so i'd do the desktop first, then the laptop.

QUOTES FROM ULTIMATE RETAIL EULA:
"2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS. Before you use the software under a license,
you must assign that license to one device. That device is the “licensed
device.â€
"b. Portable Device. You may install another copy on a portable device for
use by the single primary user of the licensed device."

In addition to what the others told you, make sure you elect to get the
install disc!

AND FINALLY, should you need to install first to the laptop and designate it
as the 'licensed device', you can go back later and reassign the software to
a differend licensed device, but you need to wait at least 90 days. THEN
after the desktop is the licensed device you can now install on the laptop as
the allowed portable device. again "as i read it"
QUOTE FROM OEM ULTIMATE EULA: "15. REASSIGN TO ANOTHER DEVICE. You may
reassign the license to a different
device any number of times, but not more than one time every 90 days. If
you reassign, that other device becomes the “licensed device.†If you retire
the licensed device due to hardware failure, you may reassign the license
sooner.""

AND $60 for a full oem Ultimate license. wow. my kingdom for a .edu
email....
