No page numbers on 1st two pages in new section

I found reference to someone else with this problem in the following
message thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...=page+numbers+section&rnum=2#2a8729727b539b99

Unfortunately, I am having the same problem and I'm not sure how to
work around it. I have a fairly long document (50+ pages) with several
sections, and I need this to be fairly user-friendly for my
non-graphic-designer salespeople. So, manually entering the page
numbers after the section splits is NOT an option.

Any recommendations? I'm using Publisher 2003. TIA!

You will have to add the page numbers for both the odd and even pages, you only
have to do this once. When you create the section, you will be queried about the
page number startup in the new section or continue from the beginning. You only
need to insert the starting number one time, the rest will follow automatically.

Hi Mary,

I did add the page numbers; they are in the master page setup. The
page numbers appear everywhere, except on the first two pages of each
section break.

When I insert the section, I check the following options:
- Begin a section with this page
- Show headers and footers on the first page of this section.

Under page number, I select "Continue from previous section."

It is only on the first two pages of each section that have this
problem. All subsequent pages have the page numbers, in the proper
sequence.

I'm boggled!

You will have to click show number on first page even though the page will start
with 4 or 5 or whatever.

Mary, I'm not clear on that. Are you instructing me to select the
option (when inserting a new section) to "Show headers and footers on
the first page of this section"? If so, I am already selecting that
option.

If you are talking about something else, please give me more detailed
instructions. I would love to get this all figured out. Thanks for
your help!

When you apply a new section and designate the numbering, click okay. Format
menu, page numbers, this is where you check "Show page number on first page."

I am so grateful for your help, Mary, but that isn't going to work for
me. I have my page number footers formatted in the Master spread. In
this particular design, the page numbers are not in any of the default
locations. So, it's not going to work for me to insert the page
numbers in the main document.

Maybe this whole problem is just a bug that occurs when the numbers are
inserted in the master spread?

I'm losing hope! It's not the end of the world if I don't have section
breaks, but it would be terribly convenient if I could figure this out!

Thanks again!

I don't know what to tell you. I've tried to duplicate your issue. Do you have a
one page or two page view when the Master pages on your screen?

All page numbers are on the Master Pages, never on the publication pages. Are
you certain you don't have an object covering the page numbers on your
publication page?

R

ReservoirFrog

That is correct. All page numbers are on the Master Pages, via a "#"
placeholder in the footer.

And yes, I am sure there are no objects covering the page number in the
publication page. The reason I know this is because my page number is
in white, on top of a green circle background. The green circle
background appears, but there is no page number on top.

The strange thing is, the page numbers appear just perfectly on the
pages following the spread in which I have started a new section. And,
I am having this same problem in every section within the document.

I don't know if this is against your protocol, but I could send you a
sample document if you'd like to take a look.

Again, Mary, thank you so much for helping me out with this! It is
very generous of you!

Please send me your file. I would love to know what is going on.
