OneNote cannot find the Unfiled Notes section in which to open you

OneNote cannot find the Unfiled Notes section in which to open your new Side
Note.

Everytime I click on the Icon or do a winkey/n, I get this message and the
little window that the message is in is blue. I then go ask instructed to
Tools/Option/Save but I don't know what to do then.

Thie Winkey/n used to work for me.

G

Gerald

Its me again. I get the message below when I do WinKey/N or click on the N
Icon.

Can you see the Unfiled Notes notebook on OneNote?

If No, Close OneNote.
In My Documents\OneNote Notebooks is there a file 'Unfiled Notes.one'?
Rename it e.g. UN.xxx
Reopen OneNote.
Can you see it now?

Recheck shortcut key settings:
Right click OneNote icon in System Tray
Select menu item: Options

see uppercase within yours, please. Thanks for writing--

THERE ARE 2 LOCATIONS OF ONENOTE---ONE FOLDER UNDER DOCUMENTS AND ONE FOLDER
UNDER A SUBFOLDER IN DOCUMENTS. IT IS HERE THAT THERE IS A 'Unfiled Notes
(.one)'
Rename it e.g. UN.xxx
Reopen OneNote.
Can you see it now?
YES, BUT NOW I HAVE LOST THE 'N ICON' IN THE QUICK LAUNCH---THE LOWER RIGHT RIBBON OR BAR.
Recheck shortcut key settings: WHAT DO YOU MEAN?
Right click OneNote icon in System Tray LIKE I SAY, THERE IS NO ICON
Select menu item: Options

Sorry for "shouting" with UCase but I thought it would be easier to read.
btw, I wish that we could use attachments on this forum. Could we go to a
side-bar, i.e. emails, my address is (e-mail address removed)

I tried sending a private email but it was bounced. Here is what I wrote:

Instead of renaming "UN.xxx" I tried just clicking on what it was, which was
"unfiled notes." and it brought me to where I wanted to be. I also went back
and did the renaming and that also worked.

I really like the idea of OneNote, but I find it very unstable. I have tried
to re-organize it and I now have many, many notebooks (folders?), all with
different names that I have given them in my efforts to try and organize and
all I have now is a huge mess! I have many notes duplicated....I have lost
some notes....and I have notebooks duplicated !!!!!I have watched all of the
videos and read all the helps, and I still can't get it organized. I would
like to be able to move all my notes to just One Notebook....I really don't
have that many notes...only about 30 or 40 but it is still a mess. Maybe you
can't help me, but if you can, great!

Ok, since you now know where your Unfiled Notes are stored, let's go back to
the start.

Windows+N

When it takes you to Tools-Options-Save, in the Paths list box, select the
Unfiled Notes Section item. Then click the modify button and navigate to
the folder per above.

Then click OK.

Then Windows+N again. Let us know.

G

Gerald

You write: windows+N
I write: for me that brings up the little side window. Windows-shift+N
brings up the whole onenote page.

D

David

So you're not getting the error message now?

Are you happy with the behaviour of Windows+N and Windows+Shift+N?
If not, you can change it per Recheck shortcut key settings instructions
below.

I think those key strokes are okay with me. Where can I go on the web, or on
this site, to really study up on clearing up my mess of files and notes in
OneNote?

G

Gerald

I have been to that site many times trying to learn; but, I haven't found the
answers to clearing my mess yet. I'll just have to keep on keepin on.
