outlook connection error code 0x800ccc92

H

Hickies

I can connect to my email account using outlook express, but I cannot access
it using Outlook Office 2000.

It wants me to retype the user name and password even though it is correct
and then has the error code 0x8000ccc92.

I have downloaded and installed all the office service packs and upgrades

You're getting a 0x8000ccc92 error as well? Could you turn on diagnostic
logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300479) and post
the OPMLog.log file (preferably as an attachment) after you get this error?

I am having the same problem, Outlook 2003, XP SP2, Norton
Firewall/Antivirus. I have tried everything from fixing pst files to
deleting and creating new profiles. Can anyone help? I can send and receive
using Outlook Express, but I want to have the email and calendar all bundled
together.

What happens if you turn off Norton's scanning of your mail? If that
doesn't help, could you turn on diagnostic logging (see
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q300479) and post
the OPMLog.log file (preferably as an attachment) after you get that error?

Sorry I could not figure out how to do the attachement.

Well, that is indeed your POP server saying that either your username or
password is in correct. I don't know how your ISP has their accounts set
up, but you appear to be passing your email address ([email protected]) as
your username, and then your password (which doesn't show in the logfile for
obvious reasons...) and the server rejects your attempt to login. The two
possibilities I can think of are (1) your username should really be jmebqz,
not the full email address or (2) you've entered your password incorrectly.

Could it be that my password file is corrupted and that it is passing garbage
to the pop3 server? I think what I will try to do is to disable everything
and then reboot and see what happens. Thanks for trying.

Ok here is what I did. I logged off and logged backed in as Administrator.
I then restarted Outlook 2003. I guess because I came in as a different
profile, Outlook had to initialize and then I had to create a new profile.
Once I did that I did a send/receive and it worked. So I guess the Windows
profile that I am using is corrupt somehow. I also enabled logging in
Express and looked at the log after successfully sending and receiving mail.
When I compared the two logs (Outook and Express) I noticed that the password
for Express was eight asterisks, while Outlook had only four asterisks. My
password is eight characters. So I guess the password file was corrupt and I
guess that when I used another profile its password file was not corrupt.

So one more question, when I delete my old profile what will I lose?
(programs, settings, etc....)

The difference in length is not significant - I don't know about Outlook
Express, but Outlook only prints 4 asterisks regardless of the length of the
password, because we don't want to give any clues about the password. It
may be that the password in your account was not correct (I assume that you
have the "Remember password" option checked). In any case, I'm glad things
are working for you.
