Read Only Default

We are running ProjectServer 2003, accessing it with
Project 2002 & 2003. Is there any way to have the "Read-
only to view" option in the Open From Microsoft Project
Server dialog box be the default choice as opposed to
Read/write to check out?

Thanks in advance

In Project Server 2003, those who are members of the Project Managers group
have Read/Write permissions to open any project for which they are the
manager or in which they are a team member. In addition, they do not have
permission to see and open anyone else's project. Therefore, there is no
way to change these permissions unless you want to totally deny Read/Write
access to projects in the Project Server database. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale.

We have the filter down security in place using the
Categories, Groups, and RBS so that only the ones who
need to access the projects can do so. THe problem we
have is that we don't have real project managers. We have
several people assigned to each project with PM
permissions that need to edit the plan in project. What
we run into is one of them opening the plan to look at it
(its a culture thing trying to get them to use PWA for
that) and then walking away from their desks. Now that
its checked out, the other PM that needs to edit the plan
can't.

Just trying to see if the software could do what training
and blows to the head with a sharp stick can't.

Given your circumstances, I would recommend that you make this a training
and performance issue. Hope this helps.
