Saved baseline, but no data was saved in baseline fields

I saved a baseline, but no data was saved to the baseline fields. What can I
do to make this happen?

Hi Melanie,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

What steps did you take to baseline (key presses or mouse clicks?). What
version of Project are you using?

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your reply!

I am using MS Project 2003 Standard. I am working with a Master schedule,
i.e. I have several schedules consolidated into one. I am trying to set a
baseline for a huge initiative that has already begun (several tasks are
partially complete). There is a change initiative project team that will be
monitoring all the sub-projects and reporting to the executives.

I used mouse clicks, that is I went to Tools/Tracking/Save Baseline... I
saved baseline under "Baseline" since it was my first time saving the
baseline. The "For:" option was set to "Entire Project."

Then I clicked OK.

Then in the entry table I inserted the column "Baseline Start" and "Baseline
Duration." The only data viewable in these columns is "NA" in all cells
except for at the summary task level. Are the lowest level tasks not
baselined? Also, when I look at the gantt bars in the Tracking Gantt view, I
do not see the the baseline bar next to the task bar, even for the summary
tasks that do have some data saved.

Am I missing something? Am I expecting something that won't be available?

Thanks,

Melanie

Hi Melanie,
I just tried your scenario - Master Project with inserted projects and
sadly, got the same result. I was able to save the baseline for the subtasks
in the project by selecting all tasks (click on the column heading). Go to
Tools>Tracking>Save baseline, choose selected tasks and check off the two
options under Roll up baselines.
This works, but why the first method didn't I don't know.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Maybe the theory is that your individual projects should be baselined
on their own. Then that baseline data would be visible in the Master
schedule as other data from the individual projects are.

Mike,

I've seen this before... I saved the baseline in each sub project separately
and then added to the master schedule. The Baseline data doesn't seem to
show at the Summary level (outline level 1) for each sub project. I think
this is a bug! Any thoughts?!?

Thanks!

Ian
