SP 1 installation fails--corrupted installation data base

I tried to manually download and install Office SP1 update. I have Small
business version on XP Professional. The Installation failed because of
Corrupted Installation database.

How do I fix this so that I can download the Service Pack?

I purchased on line and have an on-line downloadable version of Office 2007
for Small business.

I also note that I had the Beta Professional and Professional 2007 version on
my computer, which I also cannot uninstall because of the same detection
error, corrupted installation, run again from same installation source.

I have had the same problem with a purchased non beta version of Office 2007
Suite running on a Vista box. Hope someone can help us with this problem.

I am having the same issue with the latest Excel security update (KB959997) &
came to this site to find answers that don't seem to be available in the
knowledge base. I am amazed that 4 people have asked for help with this issue
since Oct. 2008 with not a single response! Are these discussion groups
actually monitored by knowledgeable individuals with viable solutions to MS
product glitches?

Good post dlauber! Encountered this today on 6 XP SP3 workstations,
most disturbing! I followed your advise and renamed those patch keys to
patch.old on everything that refered to Offic e 2007. Didn't need to
reboot. The final 5 I just deleted those patch keys and ran the
update.

Thanks again!

Steven

Thanks so much. Glad it helped you.
Microsoft has since issued a patch for Office 2007 that may help with
this issue. I don't know for sure since we already updated all of our
Office 2007 installations before the patch was issued.

Brandon,

You should probably follow the instructions I posted above and your
Office 2007 Service Pack 2 should install just fine. Try it and let us
all know how it works out.

I have a similar issue, but my problem is installing SP2 on top of SP1.
Office Update doesn't work because our network admins have blocked tha
(so they can control updates for 1000's of PCs, which makes sense), bu
I need to update O2007 to SP2. I followed dlauber's instructions bu
couldn't resolve the error, and found that the keys mentioned ("patch"
don't exist exactly like that - there are keys called "Patches" an
string values called "Patches".

In regedit, I discovered :

\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\00002109020090400000000000F01FEC\Patches

This is for "Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system", and i
typical of most of the other keys under "Installer\Products". For al
such products that are relevant to Office 2007, I renamed the "Patches
key to "Patches_old". In every case, where there is a "Patches" key
there is also a string value called "Patches". Do I also need to renam
the "Patches" string value to "Patches_old" ?

Some of the keys contain sub-keys of "Patches" and "SourceList" (whic
then has sub-keys of "Media" and "Net").

Any ideas, or more detailed instructions would be appreciated
