start task 3 if task 1 OR task 2 is finished in project

I've been trying to figure this out for a while now. I would like task 3 to
start when either task 1 or task 2 is complete.

Actually, you can start the tasks whenever you want. Project is not
controlling when you start.

If Project had a way to model an "or", then it would be computing 2
schedules. 1 schedule has enough complexity, thank you very much.

I understand what you are saying, but, for instance if I want to write a
paper and can't write it until I have a pencil or pen then I wouldn't wait
for both to arrive, I would start writing with whatever was available first.
That is what I am trying to accomplish. I understand that I can set a date,
but I thought that was breaking a cardinal rule, AND, I want "the writing of
the paper" to start whenever something arrives to write with. So, it sounds
like there isn't a way to do this?

Hi dholtzem,

You are correct. Assuming a task has two predecessors
(finish-to-start), both predecessors must be finished before the
successors can start. It is not an either/or relationship.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
