Subproject title in master project

When a subproject is inserted in a master project, where does the name
come from that is displayed on the first line of the sub?

Hello jlbreyer,
It comes from the "Title" of the sub-project : File / Properties / Title...

Hope this helps,

Gerard,
Not always true. See the discussion on this subject (i.e. "Inserted
Project") posted by Cheryl on 6/30/04.

I read that thread and couldn't really spot if this was a confirmed bug
sighting of a particular version of Project (just 2003? which seems to
have introduced a number of new bugs), or what.

In any event, I have never seen the Project Title field from Menu:
File/Properties not work. I've still stuck on Project 2002, though (and
staying there for most work involving inserted projects).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Hi Rob,

I'm sorry to say, but through all versions I've been using, this is an
oddity.
For instance, setting the title property throughVBA doesn't work at all, you
have to set the name of the project summary task.
In many instances, manually as well, this is generally more "powerful" than
Title property.

Greetings,

Rob,
No it's not a bug of Project 2003. But now that I did a little more
research, it appears it is an anomaly (not necessarily a bug) of Project
2000. I don't know about Project 2002 because I don't have that version.
I use Project 2000 on a daily basis and the results I got (see
referenced post thread) are still true with that version. However, if I
go through the identical insertion process with Project 2003, the
Project Title field is changed (by Project because I made no changes to
the files between experiments). In other words, if I open one of my
subprojects (TInsert-2) for under Project 2000, the Project Title is
"TInsert-2". If I open the same file under Project 2003, the Project
Title is "TInsert-2A". In both cases, when inserted the subproject task
name is "TInsert -2A".

I never did get an answer in the previous thread of posts, but it
appears I now have one.

Jl,
Which version of Project are you using? See my response to Rob's post
earlier in this thread.

Interesting discussion! With Project 98 and 2002 I never saw this issue
.... (I would call it a bug). I'm still not sure, with all this
information, it's an explainable issue. Aren't computers wonderful?

Rob,
I tried my test file in Project 98 and it also displays the anomaly. The
Project Title says "TInsert-2" but when inserted into a master, it says
"TInsert-2A". If you'd like I can send you the file and you can try it
yourself.

The best explanation I could come up with on my own was that the
original file name remains stored somewhere in the Project database and
for Project 98 and 2000, this original name shows up when the file is
inserted into a master project. Apparently, this anomaly was corrected
in later versions.

The information comes from the Properties.
Creat/open a project go to File, Properties, Title, amend this and see what happens when it is inserted as a sub-project.

John,

Thanks for the offer. No need to send the file. I'll take your word
for it that it's an anomaly. I guess I'm just glad that I never noticed
it, nor had the need to deal with the issue. Have other things to work
.... :) Thanks.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

..... but also do read the dozen messages in this thread that say it isn't
always like that :))
