Hi Linda,
You're most welcome and thanks for the feedback.
To your last question -- I assume you are trying to add the columns
of
data vertically and the totals for the listed tasks are not adding
correctly at the bottom of the report.
I don't think this is an issue with weeks, but that the row column
totals *are* showing all work for all resources assigned to the
task --
not just Bob's work. For example, I have a task with 2 resources
assigned, Bob and Sue. Bob is scheduled for 40 hours of work on
the
task and Sue is scheduled for 40 hours of work. The task starts on
16
April and ends on 20 April. It falls into the week beginning April
15
and is the only task scheduled for that week. The column total
shows 80
hours even though the only assignment visible is Bob's assignment
for 40
hours. In the report, the top line is the task name line and the
work
shows the total work on the task - 80 hours. Indented underneath
the
task name line is Bob's name and the 40 hours for Bob appears. The
total at the bottom of the column is 80, the total work on the task
not
120 hours as Bob's 40 hours are included in the 80. Does this
describe
what you are seeing?
I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you, JulieS! Yes, I do see differences between the
reports.
thank you
for explaining the results of the filter in each report.
The row totals do show the total work hours for the entire
project,
horizontally and are summed correctly.
In the Task Usage Report showing all work assigned to 'Bob', the
column
headings are my third level of the timescale, 'weeks'. The
column
(weeks)
totals do not sum correctly for 'Bob's' assignments. I thought
it may
also
be showing the total work hours assigned for every task for every
resource
for that week, so I changed the filter to "All Tasks" and that
report
gave me
different coumn totals.
Can you tell me what the column total designated as weeks is?
Thanks!

I am using Microsoft Project 2003. In my project I have run
both
the
Resource Usage and Task Usage Reports selecting tasks for the
rows
and
work
for the columns, filtering with using resource....
In the Details tab I opted for both row and column totals.
What do
the
column and row totals on the report represent?
[Julie] The row totals in the Task Usage view show the total
work for
the Task throughout the entire project. If you add the work
total
for
each day or week (represented by the columns in the report)
across
horizontally, it should equal the row total. The Column totals
represent the total work for all assignments for the day or week
(represented by the columns in the report) -- essentially adding
down
each column. The row totals in the Resource Usage view, equal
the
total
work for the Resource across all of his/her assignments in the
project.
There are no column totals for the Resource Usage report.
I summed the work values for
each column and row on an adding machine and the values shown
do
not
sum to
the row and column totals on the report.
[Julie] I assume you are comparing the Task Usage Report to the
Resource
Usage report and seeing a difference. If you are comparing the
two
reports and using the Using Resource Filter, I would expect to
see
differences. The Using Resource Filter is a Task Filter and
temporarily
filters out the Assignments for all resources other than the
filtered
resource. So if you run the Task Usage Report and filter for
the
Resource named Bob, you are only seeing the Tasks which Bob is
assigned
to, and consequently the work values will only show Bob's work
on
those
tasks. If you run the Resource Usage report, you are seeing the
work
values for *all* resources, not just Bob.
Thanks so much, in advance, for your assistance.
Linda
