Text Alignment

When I try to center one line in a paragraph, I highlight
that line and click on the center alignment picture.
Each line in the document becomes centered. How can I
center only specific lines?

Format > Style > Modify: clear the the 'Automatic update' checkbox.

What's happening is that your modification is automatically updating the
style definition, and is then applied to all other paragraphs of the same
style (and if the style is Normal, to paragraphs with styles based on
normal).
