Word 2003 Cannot Open/Save RTF Files on Novell 3.12 Drive

Ben

I just upgraded from Office XP to Office 2003 and noticed that I cannot save
new RTF files to our network drive as well as I cannot open existing RTF
files from our network drive. The DOC files open and save fine, and the RTF
files work correctly if on my local C drive.

Our network is Novell 3.12.

The message from Word is:
Word cannot open the document: user does not have access privileges

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for your time,

Ben

Hi Ben,

You may want to check with the Novell folks on
this, as 3.12 is getting a bit old :) but this
may be from either a permissions setting issue
or Novell having a problem with long file names.
Can you save it if you use an 8.3 formatted file name?

What is the build number of Word in Help=>About?

Bob,

I know 3.12 is old, in fact it is ancient :) However, I don't see my
company upgrading as long as it works for them. :(

Everything works fine in Office XP and everything (except RTF on network)
works fine in Word 2003. The build is 11.5604.5606. It is the version
released on MSDN downloads. The file is named within the 8.3 convention.

Thanks,

Ben
