VPN Syncronization Error

I have an odd problem. I did a search and could not find the answer and I
apologize if this has been asked before.

I have a laptop running XP SP2. I have a server running SBS 2003.

There was a time when I could VPN in to my server fine from my laptop and
syncronize my outlook on the laptop with my server. Since my purchase of a
pocket PC in 2007 I haven't had much call for remotely syncronizing my
laptop outlook as I rarely carry my laptop any more.

My pocket pc broke and I went back to my laptop. I can hook my laptop to my
ethernet cable at work and syncronize my laptop outlook with no problems.

Problem arises when I come home. I connect wirelessly and VPN into my
server. I run the same outlook on the same laptop and when I hit
"syncronize" on my laptop, I get "connecting" but nothing after that.
After a long time I get an error message that my user name or password is
incorrect but I don't get that error message when I syncronize with my
ethernet cable at work. I know I had this working before and can't figure
out what is going on where outlook syncronizes fine over my ethernet
connection but won't over wifi and VPN when it once did.

You should probably set up your laptop to use RPC over HTTP and cached
mode - there's just no need for VPN to access your Exchange mailbox remotely
& sync it locally. You won't have to press anything; it'll just open up and
sync on its own.

I suggest you post in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs as there are
myriad wizards in there for you to get everything set up.

Thanks for the input. I'll try it. I'm not a techie and don't really
understand what you just said but I'll try it. As long as the outlook is
synchronized with the Exchange Server and as long as I can read the mail
offline from my laptop, I'm good.

really understand what you just said but I'll try it. As long as
the outlook is synchronized with the Exchange Server and as long as I
can read the mail offline from my laptop, I'm good.

Sure. Who manages your SBS box for you? If you're doing it yourself, you
should probably pick up a couple of books (try Eriq Neale's). It's easy to
do the basic daily admin if it's set up right in the first place & you have
the basic concepts down, but there's still a lot running under the hood and
I generally recommend that users get some consulting help when they're out
of their depth, to ensure they don't end up with a dog's breakfast.
