Abject failure at accessability

I use word on a computer at my office, and it has a bit of failure to respect
color settings. When in page mode, the program respects half of the chosen
color settings for windows. Specifically, it respects the text color
settings (white) but not the background colors (black), so I get white text
on white background. I have chosen these colors for a reason, and the system
choosing to ignore them essentially makes it impossible to use. I need this
to be fixed, so that I can use word, as there is no other word processor that
behaves acceptably with the cross references in word, which my boss requires.
Please note that suggesting I change my colors will not help, it gives me a
headache reading most windows in a different color scheme.

Word is particularly bad in this area and I have every sympathy with you.
I'm afraid I don't know of any work-around, but I will raise the matter with
Microsoft.

In my experience, the color chosen for Window color becomes the paper color.
I use ivory.

Yes, it does become the paper colour. The OP isn't totally explicit but the
key point is that Word "respects half of the chosen color settings for
windows". Respecting none would be an annoyance, but respecting some is
worse because it leads to white on white or black on black.
