Adding Section Designators to TOC Page Numbers

I am trying to create a TOC with custom formatting

The document has a number of separate sections, such as Appendices, tha
have their own page numbering set off by a section designator (fo
instance, Appendix A pages are numbered "A-1, A-2, A-3 . . ."; Appendi
B pages are "B-1, B-2, B-3 . . ."). This is handled by simply puttin
the page numbering in a footer and typing the section designator ("A-"
"B-", "C-", etc.) before the page number code; the section designato
appears on every page of that section, and the page number follows it

But those designators should also be reflected in the TOC pag
numbering, to indicate, for instance, which "page 5" a certain entr
appears on, since there are multiple page 5s. There doesn't seem to be
way to format the TOC to include such designators. Or is there

I would like the TOC to look something like this

Action Items . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Strategy . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Roll-Out . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Policies . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A-
Procedures . . . . . . . . . . . . . A-
Branding . . . . . . . . . . . . . . B-
etc

A standard TOC automatically includes the entrywords and page numbers
you can set it to include the dot leader before the page numbers, o
not. But there seems to be no way to get it to include the sectio
designators (like "A-" and "B-" above)

I know there are TOC switches ("field codes") you can use fo
formatting, but they mostly don't add content. There is an \s switc
that will include chapter *numbers*, if the chapters are sequentiall
numbered and designated as such. But that's not the case here; I wan
arbitrary section designator codes that are not numbers and not chapte
titles. There seems to be no switch for that

Any suggestions

Thanks

Hi,
(for instance, Appendix A pages are numbered
"A-1, A-2, A-3 . . ."; Appendix B pages are
"B-1, B-2, B-3 . . ."). This is handled by simply
putting the page numbering in a footer and typing
the section designator ("A-", "B-", "C-", etc.) before
the page number code; the section designator
appears on every page of that section, and the page
number follows it.
But those designators should also be reflected in
the TOC page numbering,

the only way is to include chapter number into page numbering (Format |
Page Numbers ...). Then chapter numbers also will be shown in the TOC.
So you have to use one of the built-in Headings as Appendix headings,
numbered A, B, C,...

As Lisa says, you have to use the "Include chapter number" feature in the
Page Number Format dialog. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Numbering/ChapterNumber.htm.

arbitrary section designator codes that are not numbers and not chapter

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
