Allocating funds to a resource

Hi,

As part of a budget we have been allocated funds for removals - apologies if
this is a silly question as I am fairly new to Project, but what I would like
to do is be able to allocate funds for different removals (we have several
offices). I am not sure how to do this, can anyone point me in the right
direction please.

Many thanks

lyndad,
First of all, what exactly are "removals"? Are they a task to be
performed by a labor resource? And what do offices have to do with
removals?

Second, what version of Project are you using? The reason I ask is that
Project 2007 has added functionality for cost budgets. That feature may
or may not be applicable to what you want to do.

If each move is a fixed fee contract with the moving company, and the price
is approximately the same for each office, then I would create a material
resource in the Resource Sheet called Removal Contract (or something like
that), set the rate to the fee, then assign one Removal Contract to each
office move.

I suppose you could use cost resources if you're using Project 2007, which
would perhaps be a better option if each removal is priced differently.
However, then I think (and haven't tested this), you won't be able to sum up
how many moves you actually have for the entire project.

Many thanks to both of you and apologies for not making it clear - we use
Project 2000. The idea was that we are allocated a budget for removal firms
to come in to each building and move people either from room to room or to
another one of our buildings. I would imagine that the prices should be
roughly the same, although there will be instances where they will differ. I
will try the material resource - thanks again.
