Any suggestions on implementing internal calendar for a university

Shiva

This is Shiva, a web services administrator at a University in Nashville, TN.
I was assigned a task of researching web for creating an intranet calendar
in Outlook. I am including a brief description of the project:

1) I work in a university and we have various constituencies of
our university showing an active interest in maintaining a university-wide
calendar.
For example, I work in the Information Technology Services (ITS) department
and we at ITS would like to have a calendar which will show all the important
dates pertaining to our department like training module dates, project
deadline dates, important meeting dates etc.,

2) The other departments at the university like admissions would
like to have a calendar showing all the important dates pertaining to their
area like : admission deadlines, student acceptance deadlines, financial aid
recipient deadline dates etc.,

3) Other academic departments would also like to have a calendar
with important dates pertaining to their area such as - mid term dates, final
exam schedules, graduate assistantship awarding deadlines etc.,

My aim is to find out if we can have all these dates incorporated in
individual calendars - so that each department has their own calendar in
outlook (internally - as in not visible to the students). And finally to have
a university wide calendar which would take all the dates published in these
individual departments and publish them to a university wide calendar. At the
end we would like to publish all these calendars to a HTML form and publish
that on our intranet (I know that we can publish that calendar on internet in
HTML format and edit them).

I am new to outlook and I am looking through all the available material on
the internet regarding this topic and I would really appreciate if you could
help me in this matter. If you could please suggest me where I could find any
material related to this, I would greatly appreciate your help in this
matter.

One more thing is – if this setup is not possible with exchange server – can
we do it with share point services? Do you know of any resources where I can
get more information on this?

Thank you very much for your time and concern and have a wonderful rest of
the day,
