Assignment Delay and Assignment Levelling Delay fields

I am looking at delaying the start of an assignment and have so far used the
Delay field in the Resource or Task form. I see there is also a Levelling
Delay field – this doesn’t seem to get changed automatically if I enter a
levelling delay for a task in the Resource Allocation View nor if I get
Project to level tasks using Tools, Resource Levelling, so I guess they must
be for something else. They also seem to want only normal day entries not
elapsed days.

What is the point of this Levelling Delay field for assignments and when
should I be using it?

Hoping someone can shed some light on this.

The leveling delay is normally populated by Project when you use resource
leveling and it will only contain something if the task has been delayed as
a result of the task being delayed to resolve a resource overallocation. If
you manually enter something in it, it would be cleared if you subsequently
re-level AFAIK. You can use the plain old Delay field to introduce a manual
delay if you want. A big question to help give you a more meaningful answer
would be why you're manually delaying the assignment in the first place? Is
the resource unavailable, tied up on another task, or just what? Are you
delaying it because it was supposed to start some date in the past but
didn't get started yet? Is he alone on the task in question or one of a
several assigned to it? If he is with others, do you want to delay the
start of work for all of them or just for the one resource in question?
While there are a number of ways to adjust a task's start or an assignment
start, the "best" way to do it can depend on the circumstances.
