When I send an attachment the reciprocate cannot read it...it comes up as
some unreadable text....It doesn't happen all the time, just on the odd
document, ususally when it's something really important that I need to send !!

What version or Outlook are you using? What mail client does the recipient
use? In what format are you composing the message? How are you attaching
the item?

version 2005...I think it's the format that is giving me the problem....is
there a difference between HTML and rich text ? I just send my attachments in
the usual way and most of the time it can be read by the recipient but one
told me the other day that he received my attachment as a data file...but I
haven't changed anything ( to the best of my knowledge )

Is this on a Mac?

Absolutely. Rich Text is a format specific to Outlook. Only someone using
Outlook can read it.

That's what you'll see when you send a Rich Text message to someone not
using Outlook. Attachments will be ignored because the recipient's client
can't decode the Rich Text.
