Automatically save a journal entry

Is there a way to have outlook automatically save an open journal entry? I
use them to track my total work time for the day. If I accidentally close
outlook, or have to reboot, the entry is gone, or was saved manually hours
ago. Is autosave only for e-mail messages?

When you close Outlook it should prompt (or at least allow) you to save
any open items. How are you closing Outlook? (i.e. you're not doing an
"End Task" to close it are you?)

Also, What version of Outlook are you running and what mode
(Corp/Workgroup, Internet Mail Only, etc.) do you have it installed in?
If you're not sure, check Help | About.

We are running Outlook 2003
Version 11.0
Build 5608

I am not sure about 'Mode' ... it does handle our corporate email through
Microsoft Exchange Server and a couple other servers that filter spam, and we
can see group free busy info and have public folders, etc. I thought this
was a more generic program comment... I could of course ask our IT people...

I exit outlook accidentally by clicking the 'X' in the upper right corner of
the main outlook window, I think I am closing only an email window, and
oppps.... No request to save the open journal entry or anything, it just
closes...

Thanks, Dan

Hmmm...that's odd. When I do it Outlook "closes" but the Journal item
window stays open until I save/close or close it. If I try to close it
without saving it prompts me and asks if I want to save my changes.

Not sure why you're seeing different results - I'll have to look into that.

I have tried to recreate the problem and I can't. Every time I try it now, I
DO get the dialogue box that askes me if I want to save. So either we scared
Outlook into behaving correctly, or I am going crazy.

Thanks, Dan

Hello Ben, I have been battling to see how to get my Journal to record
applications again in Office 2000 on new OS Windows XP. Seeing you comment
about 'mode' I have reinstalled Outlook as a workgroup/Corp configuration but
it is still not recording. Any futher info I can examine to get it up &
running again??

Hello All,

I have been using the Manual Journal entry as a way to have all my notes
from meetings stored in a conveniently searchable place. The issue I am
having is that these Journal Entries are not saved in any way as a 'draft'.
When outlook crashes, my battery runs out unexpectedly or my computer
crashes, typically several meeting notes are deleted.

Is there any way to turn on an 'Autosave' function for manual Journal
entries? If I can't fix this issue, I'm going to have to find another way to
accomplish this task.

I know that there is a human component to all of this - I could manually
save my journal entries every 5 minutes, but...

Thanks in advance for your help,

JoshS
