Background color

Is there any way to change the background color of the pages I'm working on
in Publ 2003 - not for printing, but just for the background while I'm
working on the pages? The glare of the white screen bothers my eyes. I
have everything changed through properties for windows, desktop, etc., etc.
But, I can't figure out if there is a way to change the color in
applications - including Publisher, Word, Excel. Any suggestions?

This is done thru your main Windows properties dialog box. Right click on a
blank area of your desktop. Select Properties. Select Appearance. Change
whatever you'd like. It will change the color thruout all of the Office apps
as well as others.

I did that - it worked for everything except Publ. In Publ, the actual page
I'm working on is still a glaring white. Guess I could put a background on
it until I'm ready to print, and then remove the background color.

Just don't print the background. I'm not sure why it didn't work tho.

Yep!

I just bought a new LCD monitor. It is so much brighter than my old CRT,
it's unbelievable. I have the brightness and contrast turned down to about
50%, made the backgrounds grey on everything, etc., etc. I am getting used
to it & do like it better than my crt, I think. Text seems a little fuzzier
on the lcd. Is that just the nature of the beast?

For the text fuzziness, I would look at enabling/disabling Clear Text.
Listed as an advanced option in display properties.

Brian, I just found that. I've been wading around in and about settings all
afternoon. Looks pretty good now that I've enabled clear text.

Thanks, anyhow.

Excellent. I have had mixed results with ClearType. I turn it on for
some machines and the type is easier to read. Turn it on for others, and
it makes it worse. Oh well.

I've found that it works on my LCD displays but not my CRTs

There are so MANY settings that just figuring out where they all are for
your particular scenario is nearly impossible! I just keep digging until I
either make it better or make it worse.

This is the first LCD monitor I've had & the text is clearer using clear
type.
