Calibri font unreadable in Outlook - how do I fix and where can I find MS idiot who made that decisi

Fred Morrison

After upgrading from Office 2003 to Office 2007, all the notes attached to my Contacts appear in
some weird, totally unreadable, Calibri font. It looks like some type of large block,
semi-italics-like lettering, white letters with a thin black outline around each letter.
Questions:

1. How do I fix this without opening up each and every Contact in Outlook 2007 to find/fix the
problem?

2. How do I prevent this from happening in the future?

3. Who is/was the idiot at Microsoft that came up with the idea of making a large "cartoon-like"
font such as Calibri the default?

4. How did this get through beta testing without anyone taking corrective action?

5. Is there a single "global setting" I can change to prevent similar problems in all the other
components of Office 2007? I know how to fix normal.dot for Word, but what about Excel, OneNote,
etc?

Look to the person in front of your keyboard for the solution to the problem. No one else, and I mean no one that I saw in the technical beta nor in the public groups, had any complaint even resembling yours during the beta, which lasted for over a year.

Now, try to calm down and see what your video options are set at. Using large fonts? Using accessibility for the display options? Resolution? High contrast?

Nice try with the "blame the victim" approach to problem solving. I don't use any special font
settings. I don't use any special video settings. I keep things plain vanilla. What ever the
problem is, it's not "user error". It's defintely an "Office 2007 upgrade" issue with the
conversion of notes attached to Outlook 2003 contacts.

I'm having the same issues. I think it has something to do with the
Outlook 2003 version 11.8002.6568

I know we have workstations with both 11.8002.6568 and 11.8002.8107
(Not sure which fix revs to 11.8002.8107 since they're both SP2)

The issue is sporadic, but what it looks to be a problem with Outlook
2003 recognizing how to interpret Calibri font when someone with
Outlook 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) sends emails on the same Exchange
server. Sometimes the font is converted to times new roman, other
times Arial, other times it's unreadable.

I'm going to try to change the 2007 default to Arial to see if we have
the same issues.
