I want to retrieve Outlook data from a hard drive taken from a fried
computer. I have the hard drive in a USB enclosure and can access its files.
Can I get the Contacts and email messages without having made a pst file
before the computer crashed?

The Outlook data is in a pst. No pst no Outlook data. We are not speaking of
Outlook Express are we?

If you don't have a .pst file, you don't have any Outlook data file.

Outlook2003. I have found pst files for Sent, Inbox, etc. in My Documents,
but they don't seem current. They look like backups I would have made a few
months ago. Where does Outlook store them by default? I did a search for
*.pst files on the drive, including subfolders. Thanks.

Well normally a pst file is stored in C:\Documents and
Settings\%PROFILE%\Local Settings\Applicaion Data\Microsoft\Outlook. This is
in Windows 2000\XP. Local Settings is a hidden folder so you may need to
show Hidden folders in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options... | View
