color schemes

I have a newsletter file that was created without using color schemes (colors
were added individually). I have saved it as a template for use each month.
I want to be able to change all the colors in that file by just changing the
color scheme. Now if I change the color scheme, it only changes a few
colors, mostly font colors, and leaves the background colors alone.
