why doesn't access mdb let you do CTRL+A in order to get the whole sql
statement when you're in SQL view of a query?
Because the SQL View pane is not an editor. It's a console that allows
keyboard input, positioning of the cursor with the mouse, highlighting of a
single contiguous string, copy/paste, . . . and not much else.
And why isn't there a find-replace?
It's not an editor, nor a GUI application that allows (or follows) many
standard Windows conventions. You'll need to use a different application
for editing SQL statements if you want the convenience of an editor.
