Cum cost in baseline cost in MS Project

I just set up a schedule for my project but when I ran a baseline cost report, it's different from what i put in. Turned out the right data is sitting in the cumulative costs field and my baseline costs for some reason went up. Can anyone help? Shouldn't they be the same on day one?
