CURVED LINE MEASUREMENT

Dear all,

It's my first time on international discussion groups, I usually use spanish
groups home.

I have a question about how to get the correct measurement of a curved line.

Actually I'm working with visio 2003 and I can not find an stencil that let
me the measurement of a curve line.

I mean that if I want to know the distance between a curved line the
measurement is the straigt line between X to Y but not the real measurement
of the curve.

I need a tool like the pensil to draw a paht on a map where are included
straig lines and curved lines and then get the result of the distance, but I
don't know how to do it , and I don't know how to modify the details of the
stecil for that.

I friend of mine told me that in a old version of vision that's possible but
I don't know.

Sorry by my english but I'm spanish.

Anybody can help me?

Thanks in advance.

In the Walls, Doors and Windows stencil there is a shape called (in
English) Controller Dimension.

Thanks for your response, Paul.

What I really need is not to be able to control the dimension of a straight
line but to be able to measure a curved line from point to point, following
the line directly, i.e. not directly from A to B "as the crow flies" but
following, for example, a curved path inside a box.

Ah sorry, I misread the meaning of your:
"I mean that if I want to know the distance between a curved line the
measurement is the straigt line between X to Y but not the real
measurement of the curve."

Dear Paul,

So, do you know any idea how to get that? Do you think that there is any
tool or stencil for that?

Thanks in advance.

Dear Paul,

So, do you know any idea how to get that? Do you think that there is any
tool or stencil for that?

For an arc? geometry - pi, radius and arc length.
For an arbitrary curved line ? you need the line formula and some
calculus.

P.S. you should normall only ask your question once in a single
newsgroup, posting in multiple newsgroups may even have the opposite
effect of what you intend. You may get ignored or put into the "deal
with that later" box.

Dear Paul,

Thanks a lot for your advice, it's my first time on this group. In spain
there is only one group, so we don't have this problem.

I attach my querie on the three groups because of I didn't know what was
more acurate for my question.

Thanks again.

About your answer, I have to say that I tryed to change on the SHAPESHEET's
stencil, but I don't know what to do and how I have to do.

Do you know if there is any specific explanation for that or exercice for
that?

It's my first time changing shapesheet parameters of a stencil.

Thanks in advance.
