Default open new doc without "format publication " task pane?

Is it possible to set up a default to open a new document without that
obnoxious "Format Publication" task pane? The ribbon does whatever I need,
so the task pane is redundant and in the way.

No... You can minimize it. The task pane is a tear off, it can be re-sized to
small. Drag the task pane to a less obtrusive part of the screen. Publisher will
remember this setting the next time the program is opened.

How do you do that -- I can't seem to do anything with it but make it
skinnier or fatter.

Thanks, Mary. I just gave it a try, closed the program, opened a new doc,
and you were absolutely right -- it was saved as a default (a tiny square in
the bottom corner of my screen). I had no idea that could be done, and I've
been annoyed every time I opened a new doc for a long time. I'm glad you
saved me from that. (I should have asked long ago. Silly me!)

I wish the task pane could be like all the previous versions. It does make it
easier to view different functions with the pull down however. I understand the
next version will have a ribbon similar to Word. That should eliminate the need
for the task pane.

Thanks, Mary, for your help. I am glad to hear that MS will change the next
version. Best regards.

I too think the "format publication" is a pain. It has been annoying me for
weeks and weeks and of course I couldn't find anywhere in the Help to fix
this so I came to my favorite place and found the answer immediately.
Hopefully the next version will change this. But for now the little box in
the corner is something I can live with. Thank you from RozBuds.
