Desktop Search 3 'cannot perform your search'

I have been trying for two months to get WDS 3 to work, but all I can get it
to do is tell me that "Outlook cannot perform your search." I have removed
& reinstalled it multiple times, running a repair install of Office 2007
multiple times as well. I have waited for the index to finish compiling.
Nothing works, and as long as WDS 3 is installed, Outlook's regular search
will not work either. I've tried the numerous suggestions posted here &
elsewhere, but none of them have worked so far. Any ideas when the next
release of WDS 3 will be out?
