Duration days and Work Hours

I am using MS Project 97. I am a bit rusty on some things. Right now I
have created a project using Duration to show the time in number of days
assigned to a task. I want to show the Work column and have it show the
number of hours assigned ie: Duration = 2 days, Work = 16 hrs. After
entering in my tasks I went back and inserted the Work column. However,
it is stuck on 0 hrs. no matter what the length of the task is. How do
I get the Work column to track the Duration in hors? I should know this
one but I'm missing something.

TIA,
Carl

Carl,
Let's take some of the rust off of your Project knowledge. Duration and
Work are two separate elements and they do not necessarily track.
Duration is the estimated time span in which to perform a task. It is
simply the difference, as defined by the Project calendar, between the
Start field and Finish field. Work on the other hand is the amount of
resource effort assigned to accomplish a task. If no resources are
assigned (as apparently is your case), the Work field will be zero. If
you want the Work field to track the Duration field, simply assign one
resource full time to the task.
