Many people have asked how to limit the size of the fonts menu in Microsoft Office Word and Excel. I'm using Office 2021 (not an online version), although I think this complaint is common to all versions. Often it is suggested that users assign certain favored fonts to Styles. That won’t work for me. I often write something in Word that will be printed for a sign or a greeting card. I highlight the text and try out perhaps three dozen fonts until I pick one to use. So I need to see a wide variety of them, but I don’t want to see the fonts I know I’ll never use. I don’t want to see Dubai or Javanese or Malgun or Dotum or Gulim or Leelawadee (most of those fonts are just plain boring) or any of the non-English-language fonts MS thinks I need. If those could be eliminated, the task of selecting a font would be ever so much more pleasant.
In Windows 11 Settings>Personalization>Fonts, I’ve uninstalled dozens of unwanted fonts (hiding them doesn’t help), and I’ve used the Registry to remove more, including a few system-protected fonts (risky, I know, but so far, no problems have resulted; it’s time-consuming because I like to restart after each RegEdit). There are 12 variants of Sitka (even though my searches tell me it’s not a protected font, I can’t get rid of it) and 24 (!) variants of Segoe. It’s fine with me if those fonts are still available to Windows; it’s not fine if I have to scroll through the entire list to see some of my downloaded and preferred fonts. So Microsoft, MAKE THIS CHANGE SOON. I’m too old to wait much longer.
