Help please. No matter what I do I cannot get my emails
to download in Outlook 2002.
I have outlook express and internet explorer connected up
to SP1 level.Running windows XP
When you try to send or download emails to virgin.net or
any ISP you get the above error. What happens is it may
download one or two emails then just hangs as though it
is looking for more emails but find none even though
there are more.
There are no viruses or Trojans on the system as this has
been thoroughally checked. THe anti virus software is
Norton anti virus. The email neither works in outlook
express or Outlook
Having read Microsofts solution to the error it doesn't
make sense. Both internet explorer and outlook express
must be the same version surely.

This is doing my head in. Well my friends actually as it
is his computer.

Thanks Andreas.

I had already checked this page but cannot see how you can get internet
Explorer and Outlook Express to be of the same version.

I deleted the files and the registration keys as stated and went to control
panel. There is no option to restore component for internet explorer only
windows. Doing that doesn't do anything. When you back outlook express has
not deleted either the files have come back into the directory again.

AND more importantly the mail still doesn't work.

The configuaration are correct as they work fine on the other computer I
have........

My head is starting to hurt.
If I could get a hold of Bill Gates I would ..................

THe anti virus software is Norton anti virus. The email neither works in

Try disabling Norton's scanning of email. From posts in this group, you'll
need to uninstall it, then reinstall it with the scanning options
deselected.

Thanks Jeff. Ill give this a bash. i had read this somewhere too. Hopefully
it works.
Seems pointless having a virus checker if you cannot scan emails since a lot
of viruses get in that way.
I let my mate know if this works its his computer. Luckily i have Trend
Micro checker on mines and it works fine.

Not really. Most scanning of email for viruses is superfluous on an
end-user machine, because the anti-virus programs also have a "run-time" or
"on-access" component that will prevent a virus-infected program from
running. Email scanning is really only useful on a mail server, to prevent
viruses from reaching possibly unprotected computers.

Oh well i have tried the Norton removal etc. Still doesn't work. The outlook
version I have is a stand alone seperate from office. It came with one of
those ipod things. I have updated both outlook express and internet explorer
and still the thing won't work. The modem is fine and connects no problem.
Outlook may download 1 or 2 emails then justs hangs.

Found the problem at last. There was a trojan in the system W32/Downloader
trojan.easto.a.

This is a nasty little thing that does not allow you to download or send
email. Check your processes for winhlp32.exe process. This eats memory like
nothing on earth. most virus companies can't even get rid of it. You have to
move it from registry.
