Fixed Duration and Effort Driven Question

Shawn

Project is not behaving the way I'm expecting it to :) I understand the Work
= Units x Duration formula. I thought I understood the different task types
and effort driven but I guess not.

I want to change the duration of a task and I want Project to change units
not work. I have the task as fixed duration and effort driven. So for
example, duration 5 days, 1 resource with work 20 hours (4 hours per day)
which makes units 50%. So, when I change duration to 10 days, I want Project
to keep the work at 20 hours and change the units to 25%. But instead,
Project keeps the units at 50% and changes the work to 40 hours. How do I
solve this problem?

Hello Shawn,

Try setting the task as Fixed Work. With fixed work task types if you
alter duration, project will change assignment units.

Effort Driven only comes into play if you assign or remove named
resources from tasks.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
