free slack

Hi,

I've some trouble with free slack information I get out of
my schedule. For instance I have two activities with an
FS+5d relationsship and a free slack of 10 days. If I
change the relationsship to FS the free slack changes to 5
days, which is correct. If I change it to FS-1d, the free
slacks is changed to 0 which seems to be wrong in my
opinion. Any advise to fix that?

Thanks, Andreas

Free slack on which task? Are there any other dependencies?
You can easily see free slack by looking at the arrow between the task and
the successor.
Free slack isn't very interesting to me most of the time. I'm usually more
interested in total slack.

Free slack looks at the delay that would cause a delay in the successor
while total slack is the delay in the project completion. If you have a
relationship of FS-1d, any delay at all in the predecessor task will result
in a delay on the successor, hence the zero free slack.

The free slack is on the first task and of course there are other
dependencies within the schedule. The arrow indicates a certain amount of
free slack, but I've the feeling the ms project calculation of it is
wrong.

Free Slack is the difference between the task finish and the earliest start
of the task successors. Display the start and finish columns and check it
out.
It is impossible to be certain about this unless all the schedule logic is
described or shown.

Hi Andreas ,

Please don't post binaries! Paying for download occurs in most countries,
other than the USA, where most
people (including me!) have to pay by the minute for using the telephone
line when downloading. An individual posting of pictures and project files
can take ages to
download! So - everyone is asked to please keep postings to the minimum. If
a file is the only way - then suggest corresponding by email and posting the
results on this ng for all to benefit from.
